5 Wholesome Snack Bars for Kids (and Grown-Ups!)
Let’s just establish the fact that I have no problem with store-bought bars. Be it energy bars, power bars, granola bars, or however-you- want-to label-them-bars, there’s a place in my pantry for the convenience of boxed bars (though it’s worth looking at the Nutrition Facts Label to suss out the likes of fiber, added sugar, protein, and artificial ingredients).
All that being said, there’s nothing like a wholesome homemade bar. Here’s why:
- They taste better. This is purely opinion speaking…the same opinion that believes nothing beats a homemade chocolate chip cookie, either (sorry, Tate’s).
- You know what you’re getting. I like the idea that you get to control what goes in there, whether it’s choosing organic rolled oats or opting for dark instead of semi-sweet chocolate.
- Less packaging! Once the bars are made, you can stack them in a covered container. No need for cardboard boxes or plastic wrapping.
- They’re fun to make. If you’re like me and have a borderline obsessive drive to bake (or procrastibake), it’s a smart move to stock the house with healthy(ish) bars rather than buttercream-topped cupcakes or chocolate cream pie.
Below you’ll find five favorite bars that are all relatively simple to make and tasty to eat. If you have a favorite homemade bar yourself, please tell me about it in the comments section below.

These look and sound delicious. I also love your personal touch to how you present them in simple wholesome packaging…love the brown paper and string! Christmas in a bar cookie? I’m in.
