Chocolate Banana Peanut Butter Wrap - Mom's Kitchen Handbook

Today is the second installation in my three-part Secret to School Lunch series. If you missed the last post, the series is all about easing the burden of making lunch by…

Getting Your Kids to Pitch in with the Packing

I’ll be arming you with three easy recipes to get your kids started on the “main course”, but what else should go into school lunch for good nutrition and good taste? To answer that question, I’ve developed a handy infographic that you can print and post on the fridge as a guide for both adults and kids.

As for today’s recipe, nothing motivates my own kids to cook more than a meal that is fun to make and delicious to eat. This Nutty Chocolate Banana Wrap gets double check marks on that front. While you might think a wrap with chocolate is over-the-top decadent, it calls for just 2 teaspoons, balanced out with nutrient-rich nut butter, fresh fruit, and whole grains from the Flatout Flatbread. If your child attends a school with a “no nut” policy, feel free to use a drizzle of chocolate syrup or honey in place of the chocolate hazelnut spread.

Here’s How it Goes Down:

1.Grab the kiddos and your ingredients. Have them start with a shmear of chocolate followed by their favorite nut or seed butter over whole grain flatbread.

2. Leave the banana peeling to the kids and have them set it along the edge of the flatbread and start rolling.

3. A serrated edge knife makes for easy cutting. This is a great opportunity to teach safety skills around knives. Tuck those fingers in so they don’t get nicked.  Littler cooks will require a bit more supervision than older ones.

4. Resist the urge to snatch this up and eat it before it gets into the lunch box.

Nutty Chocolate Banana Wrap

Servings 1 serving (2 for the littlest ones)

Ingredients

  • 1 Multi-Grain Flatout Flatbread
  • 2 teaspoons chocolate hazelnut spread
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons favorite nut , peanut, soy or seed butter
  • 1 banana

Instructions

  1. Lay the flatbread on your work surface. Use a butter knife to distribute the chocolate hazelnut spread in a thin layer. It won't cover the entire surface of the flatbread.
  2. Add the nut butter and spread it so that covers the surface of the flatbread.
  3. Peel the banana and set it along the shorter edge of the flatbread.
  4. Roll it up inside the flatbread so it is in the center.
  5. Use a serrated edge knife and cut crosswise in half (younger kids will need a parent to help with this).
